Golden Gate Bridge Redux

The Golden Gate Bridge was the second SVG drawing I made when starting out on this journey. After the Lighthouse for the Blind in San Francisco asked to use it for White Cane Day promotional material for Oct. 15th, 2023, I was really excited that my art was going to be featured and seen/touched by many more people.

However, once I got the prints back, I realized how squished the whole drawing was, and I wanted to produce a much better drawing using all of the skills I have developed over the year. This redux image is the result! The towers, span, position over the water, and the suspension cables are now all proportional to the actual bridge, but still rendered in a fun, minimalist way that lends itself well to tactile representation.

This version also uses International Orange for the overall bridge coloration, the actual paint color used on the bridge itself. This does produce a higher texture when printing on a Delta or PixBlaster, but is still not as high as the black outlines.

The Golden Gate Bridge has two tall vertical towers standing up over the ocean, each spaced about a third of the way from the left and right edges of the landscape image. A gently arcing deck spans across the width of the image, slightly raised in the middle. Thick curving cables are draped across the top \s of the towers, connecting them together and giving the bridge it's signature look. Many vertical suspension lines connect the thick cables to the deck. At the base of the towers are wide concrete blocks for the foundation, and a line suggesting the ocean stretches across the space behind the blocks. Two wispy cirrus clouds are in the sky above the right tower.
