Golden Gate Bridge

For my second SVG drawing, I swung for the fences. I wanted to build a tactile piece of artwork that would allow folks to feel a full-on profile view of the Golden Gate bridge as I could see it in my mind. Making the curves of the main support cables was challenging and is utilizing some sneaky techniques to make the vertical cables match the primary larger curbed cables that drape across the two towers. I'll need to revisit this drawing in the future especially acknowledging now that the use of color has quite the impact on overall understandability of the drawing when embossed or swelled.

Still, it was amazing getting to just build out this iconic landmark with nothing but code and spatial reasoning, and this project really made me feel the overall impetus of using SVG as a medium for all manner of drafting and illustration!

Two tall rectangular towers spaced about 1/3 and 2/3 of the distance across the horizontal road and understructure, with heavier drawn cables curving up from the road to the tops of the towers, with a big inverted arc in the center connecting the towers together. The heavy cables have several vertical cables connecting them down to the road. The ocean is seen in perspective behind and under the bridge, and the towers end in wide feet going into the water. There are two puffy clouds in the sky above the bridge. The whole drawing is done in varies shades of grey and white to help with the printed texture, and the towers and horizontal span have rivet details inside of them, plus the road has a balustrade spanning across it with many vertical struts.
