Privacy Policy for ghostWriter Markdown

The short version: ghostWriter Markdown collects nothing. It has no analytics, accounts, advertising, or developer-operated online service. Your writing stays on your device unless you deliberately share it. A rendered document can load an image from an address you placed in the document, and links open only when you choose them.
Who This Covers
ghostWriter Markdown is an iPhone and iPad app published by Marco Salsiccia. This policy explains what the app does with information on your device. It applies to the app only, not to the ghostWriter website.
Information Collected
None.
The developer does not collect, receive, sell, or share any personal information through the app. There is no account to create, nothing to sign in to, and no identifier assigned to you or your device.
Specifically, the app does not gather your name, email address, contacts, location, photos, health data, advertising identifiers, device identifiers, usage analytics, crash reports, or any record of what you write.
Your Documents
Documents you create are saved as ordinary markdown files in a folder named ghostWriter inside the app's Documents directory on your device.
That folder is deliberately visible in the iOS Files app so that your work belongs to you rather than being locked inside the app. You can open, copy, move, back up, or delete those files yourself at any time.
The developer has no access to these files and no way to read them. They are never uploaded anywhere by the app.
If you have iCloud Backup or iCloud Drive enabled on your device, your files may be included in backups made by iOS. That is a function of your own iCloud settings and Apple's services, not something the app does or controls. You can review this in the iOS Settings app.
Settings
Your preferences, such as the indentation style, appearance, sort order, and whether the render sound plays, are stored locally on your device using the standard iOS preferences system. These stay on your device and are removed when the app is deleted.
Network Access
The app does not contact a server operated by the developer, and creating, editing, saving, searching, and rendering ordinary text work offline.
The rendered HTML preview is created directly from the text you wrote, and JavaScript is disabled. If your document contains an image linked from the internet, displaying the preview may cause your device to request that image from its host. The host may receive ordinary request information such as your IP address. ghostWriter does not receive that request or its contents.
Links in a rendered document are not opened automatically. They open in your browser or another appropriate app only when you activate them.
No Third-Party Services
The app contains no analytics tools, advertising networks, crash reporting services, or third-party software development kits. It does not report your activity or documents to an outside company. A remote image host can receive a request when you preview a document containing an image linked from that host, as described above.
Sharing and Links
Two features send information outward, and both happen only when you choose them.
Sharing a document
When you use the share feature, the app hands your document to the standard iOS share sheet as a markdown, plain text, or HTML file. What happens to it next depends on the destination you pick, such as Mail, Messages, or another app. Once it leaves ghostWriter Markdown, the receiving app's own privacy policy applies.
Opening a link
Tapping a link inside a rendered document, or one of the links in the app's Settings screen, opens that address in your browser or mail app. Those destinations have their own privacy policies.
Children
The app is safe for all ages. Because it collects no information whatsoever, it does not knowingly or unknowingly collect information from children.
Deleting Your Information
There is nothing held by the developer to delete. To remove everything the app has stored on your device, delete the app, or delete individual documents from within the app or from the Files app.
Note that deleting the app removes the ghostWriter folder and the documents inside it. If you want to keep your writing, copy it elsewhere first using the Files app or the share feature.
Changes to This Policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Since the app collects nothing, any future change would be a notable one and would be described plainly here.
